WHAT IS IT?

LEGO SERIOUS PLAY is a powerful, internationally-renowned method for facilitating workshops and meetings that harness the full range of perspective and creative expertise in your organisation to solve complex problems. It’s engaging, it invites creativity, and it stimulates powerful conversation.

WHY USE IT?

You know you’ve got a building full of smart people. The solutions to your challenges are in the room. As trained, experienced facilitators, we can use the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method to help you get those ideas out of heads, and on to the table where they can be improved and played with.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The LEGO bricks are the medium for creative expression, a common language across backgrounds and perspectives. Participants build their ideas and express them by telling stories. The LEGO SERIOUS PLAY process then helps to bring those ideas and stories together into creative ways forward.

WHAT CAN WE USE IT FOR?

LEGO SERIOUS PLAY is an incredibly flexible process that can be applied to a huge range of challenges. It excels in the face of a complex topic with no single “right answer,” and when you want absolutely everyone’s input, even over conventional barriers to communication.

Joel BirchLEGO Serious Play Facilitator
Joel has built an entire career around helping people bring out their creative best, and to understand themselves better as learners and communicators.
Drawing on his roots in constructivist and constructionist education, Joel uses the LEGO Serious Play method to help individuals, teams, and whole organisations do their best thinking by leaving their “outer grownup” at the door, and letting the inner child do the important work. We build the understandings we hold in our heads by building solutions to a challenge with our hands.
As an experienced learning designer, coach, and educator, Joel brings over a decade of experience as a facilitator to the table, along with a big pile of LEGO bricks.
He has worked with organisations as diverse as The Positivity Institute, SpacetoCo, Bethanie, the Department of Education, and the Water Corporation. His experience spans corporate, not-for-profit, government, health, education, and startups.

“The energy in the room was electric. What an interesting way to engage people in bigger picture thinking, sharing and collaboration. Joel’s facilitation sparked so much creativity.”

April Hipkins • Coordinator of Inclusion & Engagement, Family Support WA

Joel is a natural facilitator – he uses LEGO Serious Play to draw out topics and ideas that may otherwise have gone unspoken. When working in close knit teams, we can become too caught up in our usual ways of thinking. The use of LEGO levels the field of conversation to give everyone a chance to contribute.
